Arun-class 52/54-foot

(Fast Afloat Boat 2 - FAB2)

Specifications:
Dimensions 52 x 17.6 x 5 feet. Speed 18-Kts.
Displacement 31.5t. Range 230-nm.
Construction GRP Hull Aluminium Superstucture. Endurance -
Engines 2 x 460 500-hp Caterpillar. Crew 6.

The first three were of wooden construction, from then on it was GRP, except for 52-030 Snolda which was constructed of steel and considered by many to be the best of class.

52-02 Sir William Arnold. 1025 1972 Considered to be the first "True" Arun. Based at St. Peter Port, Guernsey  1973-97 and sold as Our Lady, to Theocrat by 1997 and Samuel J in 2005 at East Cobh, Cork, (fitted out by William Osborne), last noted 09/14. Sold at Cobh to Blyth in 07/16.
54-03 Edward Bridges - Civil Service No. 37. 1037 1974 Officially named 17/06/75 at Torbay and stayed on station until June 1994. Displayed in Chatham Historic Dockyard Museum from April 1996.
54-04 Tony  Vandervell. 1049 1975 On station  at Weymouth 19/03/76,  withdrawn 11/06/99. Sold to SMPS Finland SAR 1999 as Mac Elliot and based at Porkkala. Sold to Russia in November 2013 and departed to Kronstadt.Renamed Barracuda.
54-05 BP Forties. 1050 1976 Aberdeen 1976-98 Sold to Iceland SAR as Oddur V. Gislason/TFNF in 1999, renamedJohn  Oddgier  (2310/TFSL) in 2008.To Relief 2014. Rettired and up for sale. Sold as Diving Tender 2016 as Valur.
54-06 Gough Ritchie. 1051 1976 Port St. Mary's 1976-98, withdrawn 1998 and sold to Chile (CVBS) in Oct 1998 as Capitan Eduardo Simpson Roth and based at Valparaiso. BS-07. Sold to private 2018.
54-07 City of Bradford IV. 1052 1976 Humber 1977-87, Thurso 1988-89, Ballyglass 1989-90, Tobermory 1991-98 withdrawn in 1998. Sold as Lady Arun, Restless and Soldian. last noted in Sweden October 2006.
52-08 Joy and John Wade. 1053 1977 Yarmouth, IOW 1977-2001, Relief Fleet 2001. To Iceland SAR as Bjorg (2542/TFPP) in 2002 based at Rif.
52-09 Spirit of Tayside. 1056 1978 On station at Broughty Ferry 06/05/78, officially named 17/07/78, left Dundee Jan 1999. To RCVP Australia as P.V. Danial Thain circa 1999 at Port Stephens, NSW.
52-10 Soldian. 1057 1978 Lerwick 1978- 97, officially named 12/09/78 , to Achill Island 1998-99, Relief Fleet 1999-01, To Iceland SAR as Asgrimur S. Bjornsson (2541/TFPE) in 2002 at Reykjavik.
52-11 Elizabeth Anne. 1058 1979 Falmouth 1979-97, Relief Fleet 1999-01. To RCVP Australia in 2002 as P&O Nedlloyd Encounter based at Ulladulla, NSW Sold too private at Hope Bay in 2015/6..
52-12 Walter and Margaret Couper. 1059 1979 Campbeltown from 1979-99, Relief Fleet 1999-01. Sold to SMPS Finland in 2001 Arvin Silma/ Russaro and based at Hanko fron June 2002. Sold to Russia and departed to Kronstadt 11/2013 Renamed Murena.
52-13 George and Olive Turner. 1061 1980 Tynemouth 1980-99, officially named at Tynemouth 26/06/80. Relief Fleet 1999-00. Sold to Iceland SAR in 2000 as Gunnor Friorksson (2474/TFOA). later re-named John Oddgeir and used as Relief. Damaged beyond repair in 2008? Scrapped 2014.
52-14 Edith Emilie. 1062 1980 Relief Fleet 1980-99. Officially named at Poole 22/09/80, known as "The Grey Arun", Sold to Outside Edge Charters in 2000? To Montrose Harbour Authority  August 2008 as Mare .Up for sale 2015. Sold in Malta as workboat 52-14 at Valetta.
52-15 Hyman Winstone. 1067 1980 Named 16/07/80 at Holyhead, to Relief Fleet 1983-85, Ballycotton 1985-98, Larne 1998-00, Relief Fleet 2000-02 and sold to SANAS Madeira in 2003 at Canical. Last noted July 2007.
52-16 Richard Evans - Civil Service No. 39. 1070 1980 Named 27/06/81 at Port Rush, to Relief Fleet 2000-03 Sold to Iceland SAR 2003 but wrecked en-route in March 2004 when it fell overboard from the containership Skaftfell.
52-17 Sir Max Aitkin. 1071 1981 Relief Fleet 1981-2002, sold in 2002 becoming RSC Maximus on the RiverCrouch near Hullbe. At Ramsgate reported with engine problems in April 2011. Rebuilt as MCA Cat 2 workboat and now based at Portsmouth as Maximus operated by Meridian Marine. At Hayling Marina 2014 for sale. At Dover as Maximus in 2014.
52-18 Robert Edgar. 1073 1981 Port St. Marys 1981-97, Relief Fleet 1997-99, Weymouth 1999-2002, retired 16/07/02. To 52-18 based at Tutukaka Marine in New Zealand. For sale 2017.
52-19 Marie Winstone. 1076 1981 Named at Fishguard on 27/10/81, to Torbay 1995-2001, Relief Fleet 2001-2002. Sold as Torbay to SMPS Finland in 2002 based at Kaskinen.
52-20 Duchess of Kent. 1077 1982 Relief Fleet 1982-2002 sold to SANAS Madeira at Canical, last noted July 2007.
52-21 Davina and Charles Matthews Hunter. 1078 1982 Officially named 11/09/82 at Mallaig remaining on station until 2001. To Relief Fleet 2001-03. To Iceland SAR as Einar Sigurjonsson (2593/TFAJ) in 2003 and based at Hafnarfjordur. Renamed Hans Thorn Hafstein/2593 and based at Sandegrovi.
52-22 Ralph and Bonella Farrant. 1081 1982 Officially named 08/10/82 at Poole. Relief Fleet 1982-94, Fenit 1994-99, Relief Fleet 1999-2003. To China SAR in 2006 as Huaying 393 and based at Fuzhou.
52-23 Margaret Francis Love. 1082 1982 Valentia 1983-96, Barry Dock 1998-2003. Sold to China SAR in 2005 as Huaying 398 and based at Donghai, Shanghai from August 2005.
52-24 MabelAlice. 1085 1982 Entered service as Penlee Lifeboat 08/05/83, officially named 18/07/83. To Relief Fleet 2003 and sold to Strathclyde Police in 2004 and sold to private owners 2008 and is now at Portishead Marina still as Mabel Alice For Sale at Yarmouth, IOW in 2014. To Antwerp 15/03/15, ex Royal Quays, South Shields. ToChile by 10/05/15.
52-25 AJR and LG Uridge. 1086 1983 Relief Fleet 1983-94, Torbay 1994-95, Relief Fleet 1995-1997, Holyhead 1997-1998, Relief Fleet 1998-2003, Penlee 2003. Sold to SMPS in Finland as Hebe and based at Kemi.
52-26 St. Brendan. 1092 1984 Rosslare Harbour 1984-2001. Sold in circa 2001 as Irish Mist to West Coast Charters, advertised for sale in 2009 as a dive charter boat at Holyhead Marina. Still present unused 2015. To Ramsgate 27/01/18.7.
52-27 Charles Brown. 1093 1984 Buckie 1984-2003, Relief Fleet 2003-05. Sold to China SAR in 2005 as Huaying 396 and based at Shenzhen by 2006.

52-41 Anne Lewis Fraser. 1143 1988 Named 08/09/88 (BBC 1015) at Barra Island, to Tobermory 1998-2003, Relief Fleet 2003-04, Rosslare Harbour 2004. Sold to China as Huaying 392 in 2006 ex- Barra Island. Based at Shantou.
52-42 Murray Lornie. 1144 1988 Lochinver 1989-2003, Relief Fleet 2003-04, Castletownbere 2004, relief Fleet 2004-05. Sold to Iceland SAR as Sigurvin (2683/TFSJ) in 2006 and based at Sigurfjordur.
52-43 The Queen Mother. 1149 1989 Officially named at Scrabster/Thurso 30/08/89. To Longhope 2004-06, Relief Fleet at Poole 2006 and is the last Arun-class lifeboat to be with the RNLI. All titles and nameplates removed by March 2009.  Sold to Montevideo Pilots as Edera 4.
52-44 Hibernia. 1150 1989 Relief Fleet 1989-2007. To China as Huaying 390 in 2007. Shipped 18/07/07, based at Waigaoqiao.
52-45 Mabel Williams. 1159 1990 Ballyglass 1990-1998, Relief Fleet 1998-2001, Rosslare Harbour 2001-04, Calshot 2004-07. Sold to China as Huaying 391, shipped 18/07/07, based in Donghai Bureau.
52-46 Duke of Atholl. 1160 1990 William Osborne Yard No. WO 3269, Relief Fleet 1990-99, Weymouth 1999, Hartlepool 2003-04, Relief Fleet 2004-08. Sold to Iceland SAR and shipped out late 2008 as Gunnar Fridriksson and based at Isafjorddur.
